Frequently asked question regarding Containerisation API / A-Scan.
The complete parcel journey including the Containerisation API:1. What are the event codes in the tracking API complete for ETSF?
You will first get PSAN tracking event code which indicates that pre-advice was received by RM, and then PRID – Shipment Received in Depot event once the shipment arrives in the UK.
Please note: as the parcel travels throughout the network, depending on the destination, there may be more that one events like this sent onto you, however the first one will always indicate arrival in the UK.

2. Is confrimShipmentRequest still a mandatory field for containers?
- Containerisaiton API is one of the requirements for Freight 2 Post solution. Because finalising the container automatically closes out the shipments there is no need for usage of confrimShipmentRequest.
3. Is A-Scan mandatory?
- The International Product Team have mandated that all Freight to Post customers must have A-Scan set up
4. Can you have multiple services in one container?
- No, you cannot mix different services within a bag- the bags must be separated by service in accordance with the mail preparation specifications for each service.
5. Are there any limits regarding the container’s weight?
- Bag weights are as follows:
- Minimum value of 1.500kg
- Maximum value of:
- 30kg for any GB shipments
- 11kg for any non-GB shipments, e.g. using services DEI, DEJ, PS5, PS7 etc.
6. What parcel format should containers consist of?
- Containers should consist of one parcel format only, it’s to do with our field called <rmContentFormat> which can be populated either with G for Large (Large Letters and Parcels), or P for Small (Letters).
7. When should the container be finalised?
- It must be done the latest one hour before the flight lands in the UK, so Royal Mail receives all the data on time.
8. What should the <rmService> be populated with?
- Please always populate it with P.
